The Story

On Memorial Day weekend in 2017, I had the honor of singing God Bless the USA in my deputy uniform at the F.A.I.T.H. Riders National Rally held at Shocco Springs, Alabama.
As my brother, Danny Moats, and I traveled to the rally together, I asked him if anyone had ever written a song specifically about the F.A.I.T.H. Riders. He said no, although there had been some interest in doing so.
That Sunday night, after returning home, I went to bed—and at about 2 a.m. Monday morning, the Lord woke me with a melody and chorus for a song. I immediately got out of bed, stepped outside, and sang the chorus into my phone so I wouldn’t forget it.
Later that morning, I sent the rough recording to Danny and asked what he thought. He responded that he liked it and encouraged me to finish writing the song.
I knew I wanted the first and second verses to reflect the F.A.I.T.H. Riders acronym, but for several months, I just couldn’t get the words right. It was all in the Lord’s timing.
Not long after, I received a phone call from Ed Mikrut, a college buddy I hadn’t seen in nearly 30 years. Ed, who was living in Nashville at the time, is an accomplished musician and songwriter. He told me he’d be passing through my area and wanted to meet for lunch—and that’s exactly what we did. As we caught up on lost time, I shared with him the idea for the F.A.I.T.H. Riders song and the struggle I was having completing the verses.
The very next day, Ed sent me a recording of the completed verses and chorus. It was perfect.
A few weeks later, I was helping lead praise and worship with the Lakeland, Florida, F.A.I.T.H. Riders men’s chapter at Lake Blackshear, Georgia. I asked Pastor Robert Rhodes to listen to the song. He immediately wanted me to sing it that night. I told him it wasn’t ready yet—but Brother Robert wouldn’t take no for an answer! That evening, I sat at the keyboard and sang the F.A.I.T.H. Riders song for the very first time.
That Sunday, we attended worship at Cottonton Baptist Church in Cottonton, Alabama, where Pastor Robert serves. He asked me to sing it again—this time with the church’s praise team. That was the song’s first live performance with a full team.
I made the first recording myself and sent it to our National Director, Mike Stewart, for his review. After Mike gave his approval, I recorded the final version at a friend’s studio in Dothan, Alabama. Mike later sanctioned the song as the official F.A.I.T.H. Riders song at the National Rally at Ridgecrest, North Carolina. He mentioned that, as far as he knew, F.A.I.T.H. Riders was the only motorcycle ministry with its own song.
The author and finisher of this song—and to whom all glory belongs—is our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Keep bragging on Jesus!
